About Stamford Green Primary School

Stamford Green is a co-educational county primary school for children aged between four plus (rising five year olds) and eleven years. It is situated in a quiet residential area on the edge of Epsom, close to Epsom Common and was opened in 1973. Many changes have been made to the structure of the school over the years so that we can offer accommodation of a high standard to ensure the best opportunities for all the children. We continue to seek ways for further improvements in consultation with governors, parents, staff and children.

The school has the advantage of being situated in its own grounds with six acres of playing fields as well as two playgrounds, and is undisturbed by traffic noise. The playground areas include quiet areas with benches and pergolas and we have recently introduced a trim trail, pond and wildlife garden.

The facilities inside the building include a hall with good gymnastics equipment and a well-stocked, computerised library with CD ROM, internet access, interactive whiteboards, an ICT suite, three special needs teaching rooms and a music room.

At present there are 400 pupils on roll, ranging from ‘rising fives’ to children of eleven. The children in the two reception classes work together in a large purposely-designed spacious area with outdoor learning taking place in an enclosed courtyard. Throughout the rest of the school the children are organised into two classes per year group. Class sizes currently range from 23 to 30. Each class has a class teacher. Additional teachers are employed to provide special needs support for pupils throughout the school and to provide release time for class teachers to work on other duties. In addition, children in the reception classes have the benefit of two full-time classroom assistants and a part time teaching assistant. (Year 1 also has one teaching assistant per class). All other year groups have a full time teaching assistant to support the children’s learning.
